Welcome to the homepage for the USS Manitowoc, LST-1180

Commissioned in 1970, The USS MANITOWOC, LST-1180 was the second ship in the Newport Class of Tank Landing Ships. After more than 23 years of service, USS MANITOWOC was decommissioned in 1993. Nicknamed the "Mighty Manny", she was designed to carry a crew of 14 officers, 210 enlisted and approximately 350 embarked troops.



The Manitowoc conducted two deployments off Vietnam during 1971 and 1972. She later carried troops to Lebanon in 1982 and withdrew them the following year. The Manitowoc then participated in the liberation of Grenada in October and November 1983. She also participated in the Persian Gulf War before decommissioning on 30 June 1993.



The USS MANITOWOC was last homeported in Little Creek, Virginia.
